World sports revolve around seasons. Ever shrinking seasons, but seasons never the less. The European soccer season is from August to May (with a summer break in June and July), the American football season runs from September to February, the tennis seasons ends for a few weeks in December, whilst rugby season never seems to end.
As sport around the world becomes more and more commercial, the pressure for the “season to never end” grows bigger daily – as sports juggle with the demands of advertisers and broadcasters, as well as the needs of the athletes (to give their bodies a break) and fans (to take time off from watching their heroes). It is a difficult balancing act – and one that no sport seems to have perfectly right – though the US sports (who have fewer international elements to worry about) seem to have segmented the annual sports calendar with enough balance to give each sport the limelight (and hence commercial impact) they need.
In Oman, we are very aware of seasons (they are all pretty hot) – with the end of the summer months signifying the reboot of many outdoor activities and the events calendar filling up with more to do for everyone who loves sports.
Here are Sabco Sports, our juggling act is twofold.
Firstly, for the next 8 months, we are at full steam ahead, juggling all the activities that we have been planning throughout the summer. Interest levels are high in our NOS Challenges, the newly launched Oman International Youth Cup, an exciting new Academy League, and our own showpiece event, Tough Mudder – now confirmed in an exciting location in the heart of Muscat.
And finally, our planning for summer 2019 has begun in earnest as we strive for activity during the summer months. Our goal – for our season to never end.
